Can someone really fix my credit.. or is that all just bullshit?

March 26, 2010 · Posted in Fix my credit

God.. my credit sucks. I cant get credit cards or apartments. I am in my early 20s.. but I want to fix this! I was completely reckless in college with my credit and I now I am starting to seee how important is was to mantain good credit

when people say they can fix credit.. is this true? or are you just giving your money away? any advice?

Crazy is right.

Many of these "credit repair" companies do nothing more then what you can do yourself.

You can fix MOST of your credit problems if you just spend some time educating yourself. The process is not that difficult.

1) Get a copy of your credit report. You can’t get out of debt without a roadmap.

2) Work on getting items removed from your report. Dispute them, look for any minor errors on your reports (you will find lots of them).

3) Demand validation of all your debt.

4) Contact your creditors and offer to pay, but only if they agree IN WRITING to delete the information from your report. Note that paying a debt does NOT get negative information removed, and your credit will still suck.

5) Understand that there is no "magic bullet" in fixing your credit. It’s going to take several months, lots of care record keeping, and some negotiating skills.

The ftc site has lots of free consumer publications on how to get out of debt, and explains the Fair Debt Collections Act.

If you are still stuck, locate a non-profit credit counseling agency in your area. They usually give you an hour free consultation. After looking over your finances they can generally be of help.

Can someone fix your transcript? Well, no. So, no one can fix your credit history, either.

most defiantley it can be fixed would it be perfect no, but I personally used a credit repair letter given to me by a credit repair company and took my score from a 550 up to a 690, it took about 6 months but I removed, judements, tax liens and bad credit cards. This was around 6 years ago and now there is even more loop holes that make things come off.

Why pay someone to do it when you can do it yourself. There really are legitimate and legal things you can do to improve your credit. This is the best credit repair kit I have come across so far. It is at http://www.CreditTrix.info
    Good Luck to you!!

All that credit repair companies and things like that are scams…
The only person who can fix their credit is YOU!!!
It will take some time but if you keep your current bills paid on time and not applying for every credit and loan out there, in time your score will improve. The only wait to get approved for apartments and loans is that you need a real good co-signer or you have to pay a huge down payment. This is a lesson learned!!

    It’s all bull.

Only you can fix your credit report/ credit score.

One of the easiest things to do to help your score is to pay all of your bills on time every month. Not just credit card bills. All bills (rent, phone, power, etc). Usually after about 24 months of paying your bills on time you will see your score go up.

Another thing to do is to reduce your debt. By paying down your debt, you decrease the debt to income ratio. This will really help your score.

It took time to mess your score up. It’s going to take time to fix it.

You can get a free copy of your credit report each year from each of the 3 credit bureaus at http://www.annualcreditreport.com

    good luck.

No. You have to pay everything off.

If you can’t do it alone, go to careonecredit.com and they will charge $30 per month, give you one low payment, and help you on your way. It takes a long time to repair credit, it involves paying things off. It’s better to do it now than wait, that way when you are ready, you will be able to get a house, car, apartment….
