How far back can you dispute a credit card late fee?

March 17, 2010 · Posted in dispute credit

I just found out that you can dispute charges and have them waived. This will be my first missed payment and I have an excellent credit score. Back in December I missed a payment by one day and I’d like to have it waived. Is this too far back to dispute?

Yes, it’s too late to waive the late fee. It would be a very bad idea to remind your credit card company at this late date that you made a late payment in December. They may decide you’re a higher credit risk and lower your limit or raise your interest.

While some credit card companies will waive a first time late fee if you beg very nicely, this is not true of all. Frankly, I don’t know why people expect to get the fee waived. One day late is like being a little bit pregnant — you’re still late and owe the fee.

i don’t think there is a time frame. Last month i submitted a dispute on a late payment from 2004. Good luck. Don’t be afraid and dispute it.
