If you have not gotten your credit reports yet you can obtain your free reports at annualcreditreport.com. They will not require you to sign up for a monthly monitoring service and you can get all 3 bureaus. I am not affiliated with them in any way but I recommend them because they really are FREE.

Once you get your tri-merge report there are a couple things to be aware of. Here are some basic pointers for you:

Use your Credit: If you don’t use credit, then how can the credit agencies assign you a credit score? Spend $50 monthly on your credit cards and then pay it in full to maximize your score.

30% is Just Right: Having your credit card balances at or below 30 percent of their limits shows an ability to manage credit well. If you have one card maxed out and credit availability on other cards then consider paying down the maxed card by spreading out your credit card debt among the others.

Credit History is Key: Never, never, never close unused credit cards. It amazes me how many people think that by closing them they will raise their score but in reality it does the exact opposite.

Be on Time: The credit bureaus expect you to pay on time and will penalize you considerably if you are not. At 35 percent, this is the largest component of your credit score.

Some of these things you can do immediately to raise your credit score quickly but most of the credit scoring basics are meant to give you the information you need to maintain good credit health as you move forward. What is the statue of limitations to dispute a credit card charge if it is proven to be fraud?

I am looking to see what the statute of limit is to dispute a credit card transaction that was committed from a fraudulent company. I believe it is 18 months but not sure on this could someone help me out here and let me know what the statute of limitations to dispute a charge on my credit card and get rewarded the money back from the Credit Card Company. Looking for the actual case law or where to look for it.

It may be different in your state, but one year is the statute limit in most states.

Do i need to dispute my credit with each individual credit bureau?

I recently went to Equifax and disputed some old credit cards. They were removed. Yay!

Do I need to go to Experian and Transunion and dispute the same cards there or are they going to come off those as well?
why would i dispute things that were in good standing? No they were old charged off credit cards that should have come off a long time ago.

You will have to pull your report from each bureau and see what they have. If they have the account then you will have to dispute with each of them. They don’t share information.

Do you dispute a credit report for this reason?

We have paid a couple of my husband’s old debts, but the collection agencies have not shown that they have been paid on his credit report.

Is this a reason to dispute or should we wait for the collection agencies to fix this?
One of them has been about 45 days and the other 3 were paid about a week later.

Dispute it through the credit reports.
Put "amount paid in full – please change status"
The bureau will verify that the item has been paid and change the status.

Note: Have you given this at LEAST 45 days since you made the payment?
