You can’t "fix" bad credit. Only time and on-time payments can do that.

look at your credit report from all 3 companies & see if there are any mistakes. if you’re listed late on a bill you know has been paid on time, then that type of mistake can be fixed easily by contacting the company that takes your payments. when they fix their error, make sure they correct the reporting. if you’re late on bills, make sure you immediately start making payments on time. if you’ve changed jobs lately or added a credit account or even closed an account recently or allowed a company to check your credit recently, you won’t be able to fix those. only time will take care of that. at the moment, don’t do any drastic changes, now is not the time to add accounts (no matter how tempting it might be). if you have a small bill that can be paid off, that’s ok, but don’t close it yet. wait a bit for your credit to settle down, then close it. note: if it’s an old long-term account, keep it open & use it a little bit now & then. the older the account, the more valuable to your overall credit score. don’t put any new charges on any credit card for the next month or so. lots of new spending will lower your score. it doesn’t mean you should never use a card again, as ignoring credit will lower scores too. just make it slow & steady. that shows you have control over your finances & are a more "stable" risk. then you can get better interest rate when you apply for something big like a car or house. if you have a lot of "damage control" to do, you won’t get it accomplished in a single month, but you can make steps in the right direction & that may help in a month’s time. creditors can tell when somebody is making an effort to fix a bad past.
